Trader Joe’s rumors are TRUE!

ArlNow.com just broke the news that Trader Joe’s is in the late stages of negotiations to move into the 10,000 square foot space in Clarendon Center South.   Rumors have been abuzz for several months, but at a Lyon Village Civic Association meeting last night, it was confirmed.

Before Trader Joe’s signs the contract, however, they are waiting to find out whether Arlington Country will grant one major request: they would like the Clarendon Center site plan amended to allow for designated parking spots in the Clarendon Center parking garage.  This request will go to the board in November.

If you’ve seen the Whole Foods parking lot at any given rush hour, including the spillover causing traffic jams (and several near accidents) on Clarendon Boulevard, it’s easy to understand why Trader Joe’s is so adamant about designated parking.  If Whole Foods has its own parking lot, has parking rights with the public garage across the street under Pottery Barn, and is STILL barely able to handle customer parking demands, Trader Joe’s does have a lot to worry about if Arlington County does not grant their request.

I’m fully in favor for designated Trader Joe’s parking, and I hope Arlington County will agree in November!

(Clarendon Culture has been on travel since early September, which is why the posts have been slow to come.  I will be back on track come Clarendon Day Sept. 25!)
