Brunch at Tallula

Went to Tallula for brunch over the weekend.  I went in with mediocre expectations (after having a mediocre brunch there about two years ago), but I walked out proclaiming Tallula to be one of my new favorite brunches in Clarendon (along with the Spider Kelly’s breakfast burrito, that is.)

After we placed our order (me: Ham, Egg & Cheese Sandwich; hubby: Braised Pork Roulade), the water brought out an amuse bouche - house made donut holes!  Piping hot and full of sugary goodness, they paired well with the Illy coffee.

Hubby’s Pork Roulade won the brunch contest. (we have a semi-unspoken contest going at every meal over who had the better ordering judgement.)  The braised pork was served with cheesy grits, a poached egg, and tomatillo sauce.  Divine.  I was envious of his every bite.

Even though hubby won the who-had-the-better-judgement-when-ordering contest, I absolutely loved and devoured my perfectly cooked and perfectly dressed egg sandwich. It wasn’t your typical brioche bun sandwich.  The egg was cooked just right  - a little runny, which is how I love it.  The cheese wasn’t too greasy.  The ham was thinly sliced.  The lettuce, mayo, and tomato gave it a fresh finish.

I was perfectly content at that point, but hubby was feeling festive, and wanted to kick it up a notch, so he ordered pumpkin bread pudding!  I’ll be honest - I could only have 2 bites I was a little Thanksgiving’ed out from several days of pumpkin pie, but they were 2 very happy bites.

Service was excellent, food was outstanding, ambiance was very pleasant, and we walked out with a new appreciation of a place that was long overdue for a visit.
